What is the Fachsprachenprüfung?

The medical-German exam an internationally trained doctor sits before being licensed in Germany. It has three parts of roughly twenty minutes each — a doctor-patient conversation, a written Arztbrief, and a case presentation to a colleague — and it is set by the Ärztekammer of the federal state you apply in, so details vary by state.

Does Vocabella cover all three parts?

Yes. The anamnesis roleplay is the first, the Arztbrief review the second, and the case presentation to the AI Oberarzt the third.

Can it replace a preparation course?

No, and it is not meant to. A course gives you a human examiner's judgement and a schedule that makes you show up. What this gives you is the thing a course cannot: the fourth, tenth and fortieth run-through of a patient conversation, at eleven at night, for as long as it takes.

What does it cost?

The app is free to download, and the medical module is a separate paid tier. Current prices are on the App Store — they are not repeated here, because a price that has quietly changed is worse than no price at all.

  • Your learning data — progress, vocabulary, history — stays on your device.
  • The AI features do not run on the phone. What you write for an exercise is sent to a language-model provider (the Google Gemini API) to be processed; without that there is no feedback to give you.
  • The patients in the scenarios are invented. Don't type real patient data into a practice case.
